War

Is now the time of

crashing walls,

streaks of fire,

burning glass,

and deafening roars?

For the fearful have no time

to gather —

in a world that seethes

with vengeance.

But perhaps an angel,

of fierce compassion,

who knows of survival,

could speak —

to shake the primitive airs

of rancorous kings who would

proclaim victories while standing

in a pit of blistering fumes

as the oceans thrash

at their shores,

while the earth wobbles,

spewing up dust.

The answer to suffering

is not more suffering,

and the answer to war

is not more war.
